
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born on the 22nd of March, 1976) is an American actress. Her numerous accolades include an Academy Award, British Academy Film Award and Primetime Emmy Award. She was also honored with two Golden Globe Awards. Time magazine and Forbes both listed her as one of the 100 most influential individuals around the world in the years of 2015 and 2006, respectively. Forbes has named her the world's most successful actress in 2021. She has an estimated income of $400 million. Witherspoon made her screen debut in The Man in the Moon (1991). In 1999, she achieved her first breakthrough in the role of a supporting role in Cruel Intentions. She was also known for playing Tracy Flick as Election's black comedy. Elle Woods, a comedy comedy (2001), and its 2003 sequel, received her acclaim. Also, she was in Sweet Home Alabama (2002) the romantic comedy. In 2005, she gained critical acclaim and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for portraying June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a downturn in her career with her only box office hit was Water for Elephants (2011). Witherspoon returned to the screen with the production and role in Wild (2014). She got an additional Academy Awards nomination for Best Actress. Witherspoon continues to work predominantly in television and has appeared in and produced a number of female-led adaptations of literature under Hello Sunshine. They include Big Little Lies (2017-2018), The Morning Show (2019-20), and Little Fires Everywhere (2020) which are all HBO drama series. The Primetime Emmy Award was won for Outstanding Limited Series in the initial episode of these shows. She also produced the film adaptations of Gone Girl (2014) as and Where the Crawdads Sing (1922). Witherspoon also owns Draper James, a clothing company, and is involved in advocacy organizations for children and women. She is a member of the board of directors for the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) and was named Global Ambassador of Avon Products in 2007, being the honorary chair of the foundation.
